Curriculum

Presentation

Both the preschool and the elementary school adhere to the French education system wherein, the students participate in 24 hours of teaching over a four and a half day week. In addition to this the students have one hour per week of complementary educational activities. This extra weekly hour is dedicated to whole school projects, enabling the older and younger children to work together on activities, such as cooking. A further additional weekly hour is added to the schedule in order to set up and implement the individual language courses, based on the specific language needs of each student.

In the middle school, the students participate in a 26-hour weekly teaching schedule, also adhering to the French education system. Two extra weekly hours of teaching per week are dedicated to both whole school activities and also an individual language plan.
The complementary teaching hours take through the individual arrangements that allow the implementation of our integrated plurilingual education.

Pedagogy

Presentation

Our school is a social place of learning with a strong identity. Interactive projects such as our cooking workshops, science workshops, vegetable gardens and weekly outings, give students plenty of opportunities to socialise and become active participants in their learning. These are all situations to be lived in first languages and second languages, which are an integral part of our linguistic device and play a significant role in it.

Our teachers are used to practice in classes with students of different levels and have a proven experience in teaching abroad: they develop a pedagogy and content adapted to the contextof our school and its environment.

They are also qualified to teach their native language as a foreign language, a second language or a language of Schooling :
They are therefore fully equipped to welcome and facilitate students of varying nationalities and first languages.

We have created a broad and engaging curriculum : we also pay attention day after day to students autonomy and initiative, mastery of information and communication technologies, health and Citizenship education. Our pedagogical device and the organization of the school time constantly contribute to carry out these knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes according to the ages of the children.

Languages

Our aims for the school take into account three necessities and one willingness:

  • The necessity to make the French language a priority, the « raison d’être » of our school
  • The necessity to establish the school in its host country and incorporate Lao language into the curriculum
  • The necessity to create also fluency in another language with international circulation : English
  • The willingness to welcome foreign students in the french system offering them a large part of their proper curriculum taught in their first language.

We construct for each child an individual plan considering his languages and cultural background but also his project of schooling in Laos. We build these courses with the families. From initiation to the intensive lessons, these linguistic devices all contribute to the development of a plurilingual and pluricultural competence acquired at different levels of control.

Our individual language courses are integrated: each student builds plurilingualism and pluriculturalism day after day, across disciplines and in a studied repartition between:

  • First language and second languages learning,
  • Subjects taught in first and second languages,
  • workshops lived in the three languages.

Pluriculturalism is experienced by students through the intervention of native, qualified teachers, who convey their proper educational culture. All coexist in our weekly workshops, which again play in our device a significant role.
